Chief Innovation Officer,
City of Kansas City, Missouri

Bob Bennett became the Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Kansas City, Missouri, in January 2016 after a 25-year career in the US Army.

He leads the Smart City initiatives, a suite of projects including: data analysis, Public Wi-Fi, digital kiosk installation, and smart lighting programs in the city’s downtown core. Kansas City’s initiatives earned an Edison Award (Gold) for “Collective Disruption” and civic innovation in 2017, and Bob was named one of GovTech’s 25 Dreamers, Doers and Drivers in 2018.

In 2016, US Department of Transportation named Kansas City as one of the top 7 cities to proceed to the final stage of the Smart Cities Challenge competition and was awarded $100,000 for public outreach, the production of pitch videos, and intensive technical assistance from Federal experts and private partners to further concept development. He is currently working on plans to extend Smart City infrastructure throughout the 318 miles of KCMO with an emphasis on Digital Inclusion and partnering with Avis on deployment of the first fully Connected Vehicle Fleet in a municipality.

Jenn Hawes-Hewitt

Jen Hawes-Hewitt

Jen Hawes-Hewitt leads Accenture’s Global Cities practice by driving innovative partnerships with our city clients, and national urban development agencies across the world. Jen uses the power of data and design to transform city environments and administrations.
Over the last decade, she has worked with national and city governments, developers, utilities, and telco clients on smart global urban initiatives. She leads multiple teams to provide digital masterplans, value analysis, service design, governance and operating model definition to clients in Mexico, Malaysia, the Middle East and Denmark and Estonia.

More recently, Jen was tasked with developing Accenture’s local government practice in the UK. Her responsibilities include bringing global best practices to help clients understand the implications of emerging tech within UK cities and councils, and developing relevant thought leadership and industry partnerships. She has delivered multiple digital engagements with the West Midlands Combined Authority, helping with issues such as street homelessness, supporting the national housing agency – Homes England – to digitally transform. Jen is an active member on the Mayor of London  Sadiq Khan’s Smart London Board, which recently published the Smarter London Together roadmap.

Additionally, Jen has supported the World Economic Forum’s Future of Urban Development program, the British Standards Institute Smart Cities Framework, and has been an evaluator for the UK Government’s £10m IoT Cities Competition. She also collaborated on commercial and research related projects with both MIT’s Senseable City Lab and Nesta.

Simon has a deep passion for emerging technology, exploring how it can transform and create a sustainable future for everyone. With over 25 years’ experience across Smart Cities, Creative and Interactive industries. He was part of the team that bid, planned and delivered Innovate UK’s £24m Future Cities programme in Glasgow. His principal focus was the £7m OPEN Glasgow programme that integrated and opened up city data to create engaging solutions for a range of urban challenges. He then co-founded UrbanTide to develop an innovative data sharing platform and provide smart cities maturity modelling and open data training for the UK and beyond.

In 2017 Simon joined Urban Foresight who take an integrated and holistic approach covering transport, energy and sustainable growth. A core focus is the potential of rapidly emerging sectors such as electric vehicles, smart grids, renewable energy, and intelligent transport systems which will help to accelerate the smart and sustainable transformation of our cities and communities. He is helping develop and deliver The MILL (Mobility Innovation Living Laboratory) which will establish the City of Dundee as real-life test and experimentation environment for smart mobility solutions.
